ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team posted a 286 team score and sits in second place out of 12 teams Saturday following the first day of the Navy Fall Classic.
The Blue Hens bounced back in a big way from last week's season-opening Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate, and trail Lafayette by just three shots heading into Sunday's second and final round. St. Francis (Pa.) sits in third place with a 291 score, George Mason is fourth at 293, and the Navy Golf and Navy White teams are tied for fifth at 298.
Delaware sophomore Corey Wagner (at right) is tied for fifth place in the individual standings after firing a one under par 34-36-70 on the par 71, 6,528-yard course at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club, the lowest round of his Blue Hen career.
Junior Ben Conroy is right behind Wagner, tied for sixth place after carding an even par 34-37-71, while freshman Fraser Graham is tied for 11th place following a one over par 36-36-72.
Senior co-captain Stephen Scialo recorded a two over par 35-38-73 to finish the first day tied for 17th place, while fellow senior captain Greg Matthias carded a five over par 37-39-76 and is tied for 35th place.
Playing as an individual, junior J.R. Fasy also recorded his lowest career round as a Blue Hen, firing a one over par 35-37-72 to finish the day tied for 11th place. Freshman Niño Rosal saw his first collegiate action for Delaware also playing as an individual, carding a three over par 37-37-74 to tie for 21st place.
Carter Rufe of Lafayette and Casey Thompson of George Mason are each tied for the individual lead after both players carded a three under par 34-34-68 during Saturday's opening round.
The tournament concludes Sunday with another single round beginning at 8 a.m.
