Shattuck, Conroy Help Blue Hen Men's Golfers To Eighth Place Finish Following First Day of ODU Outer Banks Intercollegiate

POWELLS POINT, N.C. -- Blue Hen freshman Braden Shattuck fired an even par 72 while senior Ben Conroy carded a one over par 73 on Sunday to lead the University of Delaware men's golf team to an eighth place finish following the first day of the Old Dominion Outer Banks Intercollegiate.
The Blue Hens recorded a 303 team score during Sunday's opening round, finishing the day in eight place out of 18 squads. Georgia Southern leads the standings with a 290 team score, while Old Dominion and Richmond are tied for second place with identical 295 scores.
Shattuck (at right) fired a 37-35-72 on the par 72, 6,560-yard course at Kilmarlic Golf Club, ending the day tied for seventh place in the individual standings. Starting on the 10th hole, Shattuck birdied the 10th and 18th holes to finish the back nine at one under par. He then birdied the first hole, and after a par and bogey, recorded an eagle on three to move to three under for the day. However after two pars, Shattuck concluded his round with three consecutive bogeys to finish at even par.
Conroy shot a 35-38-73 to finish at one over par and tie for 13th place in the standings. He opened his day with four pars and an eagle on 12, before a double bogey and two bogeys put him at two over through the back nine. However Conroy responded with four pars and a birdie on three, and following a bogey, finished with two pars and a birdie on eight to end up at one over.
UD junior Dan Costenbader carded a 40-38-78, finishing the day in a tie for 46th place at six over par. Costenbader opened with a birdie on 10 and two pars, and was still one under through 16. However he then posted a bogey on 17 and a double bogey on 18 to finish the back nine at two over. Costenbader was seven over through six, but finished strong with two pars and a birdie on eight to end up at six over.
Freshman Kyle Martin recorded an eight over par 41-39-80 during his opening round, and will enter Monday's action tied for 64th place. Martin posted six pars during a three over par back nine, and birdied the fourth and eighth holes during a five over front nine.
Sophomore Niño Rosal carded a 40-41-81, ending his day tied for 72nd place at nine over par. Rosal posted a birdie on 14 during a five over par back nine, while consecutive birdies on four and five moved him to seven over for the day. However he finished his round with two bogeys and two pars to finish at nine over.
Scott Wolfes of Georgia Southern leads the individual field with a six under par 66, while Stuart Kaufman of Elon and Jake McNulty of VCU are three shots behind.
The tournament continues Monday with the second round, while the third and final round will take place on Tuesday.
