Blue Hen Men's Golfers Finish Eighth, Stephen Scialo 17th at Joe Agee Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- University of Delaware senior Stephen Scialo fired a two over par 74 during Tuesday's final round as he finished 17th in the individual standings while the Blue Hen men's golf team was eighth in the team standings at the Joe Agee Invitational hosted by William & Mary on Monday and Tuesday.
Longwood easily captured the team title in the 13-squad field, posting a three-round score of 871. Old Dominion finished second at 897, High Point placed third at 899, Towson was fourth at 905, and Bucknell rounded out the top five at 909. Following Gardner-Webb (911) and William & Mary (915), the Blue Hens finished eighth with a 923 team score after firing a 306 during Tuesday's final round.
Hofstra (938), Long Island (942), St. Francis-Pa. (943), North Carolina Central (958) and Hampton (1059) rounded out the team standings.
Scialo (at right) posted the best round of the day by a Blue Hen with his two over 74 on the par 72, 6,889-yard Colonial Heights Golf Course. He ended the tournament in a tie for 17th place with an 11 over par 77-76-74-227 and was Delaware's top finisher for the third time in four fall tournaments.
Junior Ben Conroy carded a five over par 77 during his final round on Tuesday, and finished in a tie for 35th place with a 17 over par score of 79-77-77-233. Freshman Fraser Graham also tied for 35th place at 17 over par after firing a six over 78 Tuesday, finishing at 80-75-78-233.
Senior Greg Matthias shot a nine over par 81 during his third round, ending the tournament in a tie for 37th place with an 18 over par score of 79-74-81-234. Sophomore Corey Wagner finished in a tie for 40th place after carding a five over par 77 on Tuesday and posting a 19 over par 81-77-77-235 for the invitational.
Austin Gray of Longwood earned medalist honors with a one over par 71-71-75-217, finishing one stroke ahead of William & Mary's Jeremy Wells, who carded a two over par 71-74-73-218.
The Blue Hens return to action on October 14-15 when they compete in the Lincoln Mercury/Seton Hall Intercollegiate at Fiddler's Elbow Country Club in Basking Ridge, N.J.
