RICHMOND, Va. –University of Delaware men's soccer freshman forward Joe Dipre has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week after tallying an assist in the Blue Hens' 1-0 victory over UNCW last week.
Joining Dipre as CAA Co-Players of the Week were Drexel's Tal Bublil, who scored the game-winning goal in the Dragons' 2-0 victory over James Madison and Georgia State's Alex Vivanco, who scored three goals in two games for the Panthers last week.
Dipre provided the helpful assist on Kyle Bruno's goal in the 36th minute of the first half in Delaware's 1-0 victory over UNCW on Friday, Nov. 2 in the season finale at Delaware Mini Stadium.
The Betchworth, England native (London's Freeman's School) finished the season as Delaware's leading scorer with eight points (three goals and three assists). Dipre is the first freshman to lead the Blue Hens in scoring since 2007, when Demar Stephenson's six points (two goals and two assists) led the club.
This is the first weekly honor from the CAA for Dipre and first for the Blue Hens this season from the conference. Dipre is the first Rookie of the Week winner since 2009 when Brandon Paul earned the nod from the CAA during the week of Oct. 5.
The Blue Hens men's soccer team completed the 2012 season following the Nov. 2 victory over UNCW with a 2-5-3 CAA record and 4-11-4 overall mark, missing an opportunity to reach the CAA Championships for a third-straight season.
