Delaware Women's Rowing Continues Season with Strong Effort in Virginia

The three-way meet included teams from Delaware, Old Dominion, and North Carolina.
The Hens fought a fluctuating headwind as they crossed the line with a time of 7:47.8, just edging out North Carolina's time of 7:48.6.
Delaware's Second Varsity Eights team consisted of Hillary Levitz, Angela Quinn, Calla Cissel, Jenny Kohler, Sarah Slotoroff, Bethany Callaway, Rachel Boudart, Laura Wertman, and Meredith Murphy.
In their second race, the boat crossed the line in 8:10.9, losing to UNC and its time of 7:56.1.
Both teams will become familiar to the Hens over the course of the next few months. Assistant head coach Jinny Jang was impressed with her squad's effort with the majority of the boats having to race twice.
“We are pleased with the team's performance this weekend," said Jang. "They raced well against two strong crews that we will see at Occoquan Sprints, Knecht Cup, and Dad Vails. We will also see ODU at the Colonial Athletic Association championships. We feel there is a lot more speed in all of our crews and will focus on improving our boat speed and execution over the race course.”
The Varsity Eight lost both of their races on the day. First the Hens fell to ODU with a time of 7:56.6 compared to the winning time of 7:37.2.
Later in the day, the Hens crossed the line in 8:00.6 with UNC crossing in 7:56.1. Delaware' crew consisted of consisted of Dianna Levin, Julia Cagney, Rachel Conway, Lauren Kanaskie, Lauren Kolsky, Holly Dodge, Alex Smart, Virginia Hall, and Jamie Hedrick.
In the Freshman/Novice Eights event, the Hens were able to pull out their other win of the day. Delaware finished with a time of 8:17.2, beating ODU and the Monarchs' time of 8:33.1.
Later in the day, they crossed the line in 8:29.5, losing to UNC, which finished in 8:15.9. The Freshman/Novice Eights consisted of Jaime Noce, Denise Cirelli, Jennifer Majcher, Yardley Markee, Sarah Drobnock, Mackenzie Chrisco, Catherine Manner, Kate Flood, and Lilly Guttentag.
The Varsity Fours, who sported two different lineups on Saturday, lost the closest event of the regatta to UNC. The Hens crossed the line in 8:42.1, just being edged out by UNC's time of 8:41.5. The boat consisted Hayley Diverio, Kristen Endres, Catherine Manner, Christy Bugher, and Tori Drach.
In their other race of the day, the Varsity Fours crossed the line in 9:17.4, behind ODU and their time of 9:00.4. The Delaware boat consisted of Hayley Diverio, Kristen Endres, Sarah Slotoroff, Christy Bugher, and Tori Drach.
Finally, the Second Novice Eights lost to UNC. The Hens crossed the line in a time of 7:27.7, behind UNC and its time of 7:22.9. The Delaware boat consisted of Hayley Diverio, Sydney Gayda, Jessica Grant, Danielle Lawler, Corey Holloway, Amanda Budzilowicz, Kelly Kauker, Molly Gardner, and Shannon Bell.
The rowing team will continue its season next weekend at the Murphy Cup on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
