University of Delaware Men's Golf Team in 14th Place Following First Day of C&F Bank Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team recorded a 295 team score on Sunday and sits in 14th place out of 29 teams following the first round of the C&F Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary.
Missouri leads the field with a 282 team score, while UNC Greensboro is second at 284. Appalachian State sits in third place with a 285 score, while Old Dominion at 288 and Radford at 289 round out the top five.
Blue Hen sophomore Corey Wagner (at right) is tied for 14th place in the individual standings after carding an even par 37-34-71 during his opening round on the par 71, 6,831-yard River Course at Kingsmill Resort. Wagner finished the front nine at one over par thanks to consecutive birdies on 4 and 5, while he also birdied 15 and 16 during a one under back nine.
Senior Greg Matthias posted a three over par 37-37-74 during his first round, finishing the day tied for 51st place in the standings. Matthias was two over through four holes, but posted four pars and a birdie on 7 to finish the front nine at just one over. Three consecutive bogeys moved him to four over through 13, but he responded to record four pars and birdie 15 to finish the back nine two over.
Blue Hen senior Stephen Scialo, who carded a 34-41-75, and freshman Niño Rosal, who posted a 40-35-75, each finished the day at four over par to tie for 64th place. Scialo blazed through the front nine at two under with seven pars and birdies on 2 and 6, while birdies on 15 and 17 moved him to three under for the day. However he closed his round with an 11 on the 18th hole, finishing the day at four over par. Rosal was four over through the front nine, but birdied 12 and recorded seven other pars during his even par back nine.
UD junior Ben Conroy carded a 40-37-77, finishing his opening round at six over par to tie for 94th place following Sunday's action. Conroy posted a four over par front nine and was seven over through 12, but closed his round with five pars and a birdie on 14 to finish six over.
Emilio Cuartero of Missouri leads the individual standings with a five under par 66, while his teammate Jace Long is just one shot back.
The invitational continues on Monday before Tuesday's third and final round.
