CENTREVILLE, Mass. -- University of Delaware junior Elena Delle Donne has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-East Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Year.
Delle Donne, who earned her second Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year honor in the last three years earlier this month, helped Delaware (31-2) to a historical season that included its first-ever national ranking, a perfect 18-0 Colonial Athletic Association regular season, and its first-ever NCAA Tournament victory with a 73-42 win over UALR.
The 2011-12 Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year, Delle Donne currently leads all NCAA Division I players in scoring, averaging 28.1 points. The 6-5 junior finished out the 2011-12 season with 925 points, becoming only the 15th player in NCAA Division I history to reach the 900 points per season milestone. Her 925 points this season ranks seventh in the all-time NCAA Division I record book.
Delle Donne, who was named ECAC Eastern Player of the Week twice this season on Jan. 10 and Feb. 7, is joined by University of Connecticut freshman Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, who was voted ECAC Rookie of the Year. The award winners were selected based on a vote of ECAC coaches.
Joining Delle Donne on the ECAC Division I Women's Basketball All-Star first team is Bria Hartley of Connecticut, Corielle Yarde of Marist, Alyssa Thomas of Maryland, and Niveen Rasheed of Princeton.
Delle Donne, who earned ECAC All-East second team honors a year ago, is the first Delaware women's basketball player to earn ECAC Player of the Year honors.
