Delaware Rowers Place Sixth at Colonial Athletic Association Championships; Rachael Conway Earns All-CAA Honors

FAIRFAX STATION, Va. -- The University of Delaware women's rowing squad posted a pair of fifth place finishes from the Varsity Fours and Second Varsity Eights crews and finished with a sixth place team finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships Sunday on the Occoquan River.
Northeastern captured the team title for the third in the last four years as the Huskies took first place in the Second Varsity Eights and Varsity Eights races and was fourth in the Varsity Fours to collect 39 points. League newcomer Boston University was second with 34 points followed by Buffalo (30), Drexel (22), Old Dominion (21), Delaware (15), and George Mason (7).
"Today's racing showed how strong our conference is," said Delaware interim head coach Jinny Jang. "Our Varsity Fours and Second Varsity Eights performed well, finishing strongly with the rest of the crews. The Varsity Eights did not perform as expected and we are looking forward to a final opportunity at Dad Vails to show our true speed. Overall, we are pleased with our team's performance and improvement from last year. We are focused on getting faster for Dad Vails and next year's CAA's."
Delaware placed fifth in the Varsity Fours race as the team of coxswain Jamie Noce, Denise Cirelli, Meredith Murphy, Yardley Markee, and Ally Crossman rowed to a time of 8:03.5. Buffalo won the race with a time of 7:47.5 followed by Boston University, Old Dominion, Northeastern, Delaware, George Mason, and Drexel.
In the Second Varsity Eights race, Delaware's team of coxswain Dianna Levin, Laura Wertman, Sarah Slotoroff, Bethany Callaway, Call Cissel, Jenny Kohler, Corey Holloway, Kristen Endres, and Jamie Hedrick placed fifth in a time of 7:22.3. Northeastern won the race in 7:01.4 followed by Drexel, Boston University, Buffalo, Delaware, Old Dominion, and George Mason.
In the Varsity Eights race, Delaware placed sixth with a time of 7:05.8. Delaware's team consisted of coxswain Hillary Levitz, Rachael Conway, Julia Cagney, Lauren Kolsky, Lauren Kanaskie, Holly Dodge, Tori Drach, Virginia Hall, and Alex Smart. Northeastern won the race with a team of 6:41.8 followed by Boston University, Buffalo, Delaware, Old Dominion, George Mason.
In addition to the championship competition, Delaware Conway earned a spot on the All-CAA first team in a vote by the league head coaches. She was among 14 players named to the team with Northeastern's Joe Wilhelm tabbed as the CAA Coach of the Year.
A senior from Gansevoort, N.Y. (Saratoga Springs HS), Conway is a four-year letterwinner and a four-year member of the Varsity Eights crew. She is an honor student as an exercise physiology major with a minor in bio and disabilities studies.
Delaware will continue action May 11-12 at the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
