Matthias Leads Delaware Men's Golfers To Seventh Place Finish Following First Round of PSU Rutherford Intercollegiate

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Blue Hen senior Greg Matthias carded a four over par 75 to end the first round tied for eighth place while the University of Delaware men's golf team is tied for seventh place on Saturday following the first round of the Rutherford Intercollegiate hosted by Penn State.
Saturday's second round was suspended due to darkness, and will be completed Sunday morning before the third and final round.
The Blue Hens posted a 306 team score and ended the first round in seventh place out of 14 teams, although Delaware is just five shots behind leader George Mason at 301. Indiana (Pa.) is second at 302, Bowling Green sits in third place at 303, while William & Mary, Connecticut and Penn State are all tied for fourth at 304.
Matthias (at right) recorded a four over par 75 on the par 71, 7,202-yard PSU Blue Course to card the best round of the day by a Blue Hen. Fellow senior Stephen Scialo is tied for 12th place after posting a five over par 76 during his opening round, while junior Ben Conroy is tied for 22nd place with a six over par 77. Sophomore Dan Costenbader fired a seven over par 78 to end the round tied for 35th place, while sophomore Corey Wagner carded an eight over par 79 to finish the round in a tie for 47th place.
