Blue Hen Men's Golfers Finish Third, Scialo Ties For Fourth at PSU Rutherford Intercollegiate

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Blue Hen senior Stephen Scialo posted his second consecutive impressive performance while leading the University of Delaware men's golf team to a third place finish this weekend at the Rutherford Intercollegiate hosted by Penn State.
The Blue Hens recorded a three-round team score of 912 to finish third out of 14 teams at the tournament, their third top-three finish in four invitationals this spring. Bowling Green posted a 901 score to capture the team title, while Indiana (Pa.) was second at 908. Following the Blue Hens, Miami (Ohio) placed fourth at 917 while the host Nittany Lions rounded out the top five with a 920 score.
Scialo (at right), who finished a season-best fourth earlier in the week at the Villanova Wildcat Invitational, tied for fourth place at the Rutherford Intercollegiate by finishing at 11 over par. After carding a five over par 76 during Saturday's first round on the par 71, 7,202-yard PSU Blue Course, Scialo fired a pair of three over par 74 rounds to finish the tournament at 76-74-74-224.
Sophomore Dan Costenbader was the second Blue Hen to place among the top 10 individuals, as he carded a 13 over par 78-72-76-226 to finish in a tie for seventh place in the standings. Senior Greg Matthias tied for 15th place after firing a 16 over par 75-77-77-227 for the weekend.
Junior Ben Conroy finished in a tie for 30th place as he carded a 21 over par 77-75-82-234 during the intercollegiate, while sophomore Corey Wagner tied for 59th place after recording a 28 over par 79-81-81-241 on the weekend.
Brad Boyle of IUP earned medalist honors with a six over par 73-68-78-219, while Kevin Yerks of George Mason and Anthony Kim of Army each finished three shots back.
The Blue Hens return to action on Friday and Saturday when Delaware competes in the Longwood Intercollegiate at The Manor Resort in Farmville, Va.
