University of Delaware Rowing Advances Three Boats During First Day of Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware women's rowing squad had a strong showing during the first day of the 2012 Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River Friday afternoon.
Throughout the course of a windy, but sunny day, the Hens managed to advance three boats to Saturday morning's semifinals.
In the Varsity Heavyweight Eight, the crew of Hillary Levitz, Rachel Conway, Julia Cagney, Lauren Kolsky, Holly Dodge, Lauren Kanaskie, Tori Drach, Virginia Hall, and Alex Smart finished third in Friday morning's heat with a time of 6:58.402. Bucknell (6:43.615) finished first, followed by Dayton (6:51.047), Marist (7:06.062), and Liberty (7:38.418).
The third place finished earned the UD crew a spot in the afternoon repechages, where the Hens were able to take first and advance to Saturday's semifinals. Delaware crossed the line with a time of 6:53.836 and were followed by Western Ontario (7:00.502), Duquense (7:05.123), Florida (7:12.832), and Jacksonville (7:15.723).
The Delaware Freshman Novice Eight team of Jaime Noce, Denise Cirelli, Jenn Majcher, Yardley Markee, Corey Holloway, Mackenzie Chrisco, Sarah Drobnock, Kate Flood, and Lily Guttentag finished second in its heat with a time of 7:11.350 to advance directly to semifinals. Dusquense (7:04.671) took first, followed by the Hens, Marist (7:17.290), VCU (7:49.932), and Bryant (8:02.741).
In the Varsity Fours competition, Delaware's Anna Sung, Angela Quinn, Jamie Hedrick, Christy Bugher, and Meredith Murphy finished with a time of 8:16.496 to finish second and advance the Hens to the semifinals. Colgate (7:51.631) finished first followed by Delaware, Penn State (8:34.993), and Purdue (9:03.311).
The Blue Hen Second Varsity Eight crew of Dianna Levin, Laura Wertman, Sarah Slotoroff, Bethany Callaway, Calla Cissel, Jenny Kohler, Ally Crossman, Kristen Endres, and Rachel Boudert was unable to advance out of the heats, finishing fourth with a time of 7:13.396. Duke (6:59.906) finished first followed by Dayton (7:01.434), Connecticut (7:08.185), Delaware, George Mason (7:24.061), and Miami (7:27.886).
In the Novice Four race, Delaware's Hayley Diverio, Catherine Manner, Amanda Budzilowicz, Danielle Lawler, and Sydney Gayda finished in 8:34.355 to take fourth place. Miami (8:03.804) won followed by Old Dominion (8:06.358), Delaware, Charleston (9:01.158), and Georgia Tech (9:51.804).
The top finishers in Saturday's semifinals will advance to the Grand Finals, which will be broadcast locally in the Delaware Valley on ABC Channel 6 and online on ESPN3.com.
