Novice Eights Crew Takes Fourth Place to Lead Delaware Rowers at 2012 Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware women's rowing squad (at right) closed out its 2012 campaign Saturday highlighted by the Novice Eights crew posting a fourth place finish at the 2012 Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta held on the Schuylkill River.
The crew of Jaime Noce, Denise Cirelli, Jenn Majcher, Yardley Markee, Corey Holloway, Mackenzie Chrisco, Sarah Drobnock, Kate Flood, and Lily Guttentag finished with a time of 7:14.794 to finish just short of earning a spot on the medal dock. Drexel (7:04.592) took the gold followed by Lehigh (7:09.834), and Purdue (7:11.316). Finishing fifth was Duquense (7:14.922) with North Carolina (7:19.822) taking sixth to round out the final.
In Saturday morning's semifinals, the Novice Eights team took first with a time of 6:58.601 to edge out Purdue (6:58.959) and earn a place in the Grand Finals.
With a strong finish in Saturday's Petite Finals, the Delaware Varsity Eights crew was able to take home a 12th place overall finish. The boat of Hillary Levitz, Rachel Conway, Julia Cagney, Lauren Kolsky, Holly Dodge, Lauren Kanaskie, Tori Drach, Virginia Hall, and Alex Smart crossed the line in 7:13.317 to take sixth place in the Petite Finals.
Drexel (6:55.857) took first place in the race followed by Dayton (6:55.892), Old Dominion (6:57.938), Temple (6:59.121), Saint Joseph's (7:01.842), and Delaware.
The Varsity Eights crew was able to advance to the Petite Finals thanks to a fourth place finish in the semifinals with a time of 6:51.112. In the Grand Finals, Duke (6:43.796) took home the gold followed by Bucknell (6:44.037) and Buffalo (6:47.817).
Also for the Hens, the Varsity Fours team of Anna Sung, Angela Quinn, Jamie Hedrick, Christy Bugher, and Meredith Murphy finished fifth in its morning heat with a time of 7:59.357 but did not advance. Old Dominion (7:33.157) won the heat followed by Robert Morris (7:36.713), Drexel (7:43.650), Northwestern (7:52.005), Delaware, and Fairfield (8:01.906).
In the Grand Finals, Drake (7:47.927) took home the Varsity Fours gold followed by silver medalist Old Dominion (7:52.018), and bronze medalist Duke (7:54.607).
