Costenbader, Rosal Lead Blue Hens To Third Place Finish Following First Day of George Washington Invitational

BETHANY BEACH, Del. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team fired two sub-300 rounds on Friday and sits in third place out of 12 teams following the first day of the George Washington Intercollegiate Invitational.
The Blue Hens recorded a 295 first round and a 296 second round to finish the day at 591. Penn leads the field with a two-round score of 579, while Boston College is second at 589.
Delaware is in third place despite the fact that the top Blue Hen of the day, sophomore Dan Costenbader (at right), is playing the tournament as an individual. Costenbader fired the two lowest rounds of his UD career on Friday, carding a two over par 74 on the par 72, 6,834-yard Bear Trap Dunes Golf Course, while following with a two under par 70 during his second round to end the day tied for second place with an even par 74-70-144.
Freshman Niño Rosal also had an excellent day for the Blue Hens, shooting a career-low one under par 71 during his first round and following with a two over 74 during his second to finish the day tied for fourth place with a one over par 71-74-145.
UD junior Ben Conroy, who carded a five over par 75-74-149 on the day, and senior Greg Matthias, who also finished the day at five over with a 73-76-149, are each tied for 11th place in the individual standings heading into Saturday's final round.
Senior Stephen Scialo is tied for 23rd place after carding a seven over par 79-72-151, while sophomore Corey Wagner is tied for 48th place with a 14 over par score of 76-82-158.
Playing as individuals, freshman Fraser Graham is tied for 55th place with an 18 over par 83-79-162, while senior Bobby Arthur is 58th at 82-83-165, 21 over par.
Max Marsico of Penn leads the field with a two under par 72-70-142, while his teammate Scott Williams and Costenbader are two shots back.
The third and final round of the George Washington Intercollegiate Invitational concludes on Saturday with a single round beginning at 8:30 a.m.
