RISING SUN, Md. -- Tyler Cross, a recent graduate of nearby Caravel Academy and a future member of the University of Delaware men's golf team, won the Delaware State Golf Association (DSGA) Junior Boy's Championship this week at Chesapeake Bay Golf Club.
Cross, who will join the Blue Hens as a freshman this coming fall, fired a 12 over par 78-76-154 on the par 71 course at Chesapeake Bay to earn medalist honors at the 48-player field. He posted a one-shot victory over Jerome Mangubat, who carded a 13 over par 77-78-155 at the tournament.
Cross also finished second at the 2012 DIAA State High School Championships this spring, when he fired a 78-69-147.
“It is refreshing to be able to recruit quality student-athletes from the state of Delaware, and keep them in state at UD,” said Blue Hen men's golf head coach Mike Keogh, who will be entering his 12th season at Delaware this fall.
