University of Delaware Rowing Announces 2012 Individual Team Award Winners

NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware rowing standouts Hillary Levitz, Christy Bugher, Lauren Kolsky, and Calla Cissel have earned their team's Most Inspirational Award and Coaches Awards for the 2012 season, assistant coach Jinny Jang has announced.
Levitz (at right) and Bugher earned Most Inspirational Awards as selected by their teammates while Kosky and Cissel earned Coaches Awards selected by the Blue Hen staff.
Levitz, a senior from Marietta, Ga. (Pope High School), was named the Most Inspirational Varsity Rower; Bugher, a sophomore from Newark, Del. (Delaware Military Academy), was selected as the Most Inspirational Novice Rower; Kolsky, a senior from Novato, Calif. (Marin Catholic High School), earned the Varsity Coaches Award; and Cissel, a freshman from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (Pine Crest Prep), was the winner of the Novice Coaches Award.
Levitz is a two-time Varsity Eights coxswain who helped lead her crew to a sixth place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association championships and a 12th place finish at the Dad Vail Regatta.
“Hillary is always positive, focused, and motivated on improving herself and her fellow athletes,” said Jang. “Hillary is an excellent coxswain who truly understands the depth of the emotional, physical, and mental commitment that rowers make every stroke. Regardless of the boat she is in, she brings the crew together by improving their technique, drawing out more power and speed, and also lifting their spirits.”
Bugher is a first-year team member after transfering from Penn State. She competed for the Novice Fours, Varsity Fours, and Novice Eights crews this past season.
“As an older member of the novice squad, her hard work, determination, and leadership helped her get voted as the most inspirational member of the novice squad,” said Jang. “Christy also rowed in the Varsity Fours for several races in the spring, showing grace and flexibility by contributing to all crews in which she rowed.”
Kolsky has been a three-year member of the Varsity Eights crew and owns one of the team's top erg scores.
“Lauren's constant hard work and passion for improved fitness and effectiveness helped in our selection of her for the Varsity Coaches Award,” said Jang. “Her enthusiasm and strength on the team will be missed.”
Cissel was a first-year member of the squad in 2012 and competed for the Second Varsity Eights crew during the season.
“Calla is a recruited student-athlete from Florida who came to Delaware with the anticipation of rowing on the novice squad,” said Jang. “But early in the season, Calla's skills and power earned her a spot on the varsity squad. She took it in stride and with a great attitude, even earning a seat in the first Varsity Eights for a couple races during our championship season. Calla will continue to play an integral part in making the team faster and stronger over her next three years.”
