UD Rounds Up Seven Victories on First Day of Navy Blue and Gold Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The University of Delaware women's tennis team kicked off the Fifth Annual Navy Blue and Gold Invitational Friday with a spark as the Blue Hens recorded seven singles victories in day one action.
In Flight A play, junior Danea Jonjic' (Split, Croatia/Croatia Natural Sciences and Technical) collected a 6-4, 6-2 win over Navy's Allie Pavlansky.
Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) continued to impress in her first season in a Delaware uniform as the sophomore defeated Marisa Quevedo (Seton Hall), 6-2, 7-5, in Flight B.
Also in Flight B, junior Nataliya Naumova (Moscow, Russia/Moscow 98 School No. 1953) registered her team-best fifth straight singles win of the season with a 6-1, 1-6, 10-2 victory versus Mary Washington's Mackenzie Smith.
Christina Harrington (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) broke 20 career singles wins as the senior cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mary Washington's Hannah Jabusch in Flight C.
Senior Kim Milla (México City, México/CONAMAT) also earned a win in Flight C by defeating Paige Weinberg (Mary Washington), 6-1, 6-4.
Senior Abby Martinez (Winter Haven, Fla./Winter Haven) and freshman Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) rounded out the day's action by each picking up wins in Flight D, both against Mary Washington opponents. Martinez defeated Alina Suyama by a score of 6-2, 6-1 while Studnicki routed Kait Brogan, 6-1, 6-0.
Laura Travis“Overall we fared very well today. It's nice to see the things that we are working on in practice start to translate into match play, but there is still a lot more work to do. We are disappointed that rain cut things short and we were only able to get in one round of singles, but we are looking forward to tomorrow.”
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Junior Nataliya Naumova is the team's active career leader in singles victories with a mark of 36-32, which is good to tie for 31st in the school record books.
· Senior Kim Milla is just behind Naumova with a career singles record of 35-29.
· Sophomore Denny LaMachia leads the Blue Hens with a 5-1 mark this season while Naumova is 5-2.
· Delaware is 29-14 in singles play this fall, including a 9-2 record in the No. 3 slot.
