Danea Jonjic? Splits Singles Matches as Blue Hens Open ITA Regionals Play

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Delaware women's tennis team completed play Friday on the first day of the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships, held at Virginia Tech's Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Junior Danea Jonjic' (Split, Croatia/Croatia Natural Sciences and Technical) opened the morning for the Blue Hens with a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Towson's Nichole Shakhnazarova.
Jonjic' was then eliminated from the bracket play with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 loss to Melissa Kandinata (Richmond).
Delaware also competed in two doubles matches as Jonjic' paired with freshman Arielle Shuren (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) and sophomore Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) played alongside senior Kim Milla (México City, México/CONAMAT).
Jonjic' and Shuren fell to Radford's Meg Napolitano/Grace Sarver, 8-4, while LaMachia and Milla dropped a close 8-6 match to George Washington's Marie-Louise Decamps/Taylor Nederlander.
