Kyle Martin Seventh, Blue Hens Tied For Fifth After First Day of ODU/Outer Banks Invitational

POWELLS POINT, N.C. -- Blue Hen junior Kyle Martin is tied for seventh place in the individual standings while the University of Delaware men's golf team is tied for fifth place on Sunday following the first day of the Old Dominion/Outer Banks Invitational.
The Blue Hens recorded a 297 team score during Sunday's opening round, ending the day tied for fifth place out of 16 teams. Maryland and Drake are tied for first place with identical 294 scores, followed by the host Monarchs at 295. Drexel is fourth at 296, while UD is one of four teams that carded a 297 on the day.
Martin fired an even par 72 on the par 72, 6,535-yard Kilmarlic Golf Course to finish the day tied for seventh place. Delaware freshmen Jack Gianniny, Kieran Purcell and Blaine Lafferty are each tied for 29th place after all three players carded a three over par 75 on Sunday. Fellow rookie Erik Dulik recorded a four over par 76 and is tied for 42nd place.
Ashton Newsom of Old Dominion leads the field after he carded a four under par 68, while two players are two shots back.
The second round of the three-round tournament will begin at 8:30 on Monday with split tee times.
