University of Delaware Volleyball Has Winning Streak Snapped as Blue Hens Drop 3-0 Verdict To Towson

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team's four-match winning streak was snapped on Friday as the Blue Hens dropped a 3-0 decision to Towson at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Towson, which won its seventh consecutive match while improving to 21-3 overall and 7-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association, took the match by set scores of 25-18, 25-23, 25-23. The Blue Hens dropped to 12-12 overall and 5-4 in league play.
Delaware sophomore Alexa Swann led the Blue Hen attack with 11 kills, and she hit a team-high .409 for the night with just two attack errors. Junior Katie Hillman contributed eight kills for UD, while classmate Jill Meyers added seven with a .375 attack percentage.
Julia Anderson dished out 28 assists on the night, while Taylor Hollingsworth made a match-best 15 digs. Hillman and Autumn Jenkins chipped in with nine digs each, while Swann and Meyers each posted three blocks.
Saitaua Iosia led Towson with 12 kills while Haley Pa'akaula added 11 for the Tigers, who hit .308 as a team during the victory. Aimee Shubert and Barbara Lopez combined for 43 assists, while Paige Sekerak had 11 digs.
Bonnie KennyTowson never trailed during the first set, and closed the frame by winning seven of the final nine points to take the early lead. Neither team led by more than three points during a tense second set, but after the squads were knotted at 18-18, the Tigers won four straight points to take the lead for good. Delaware closed within 24-23 on a Swann kill, but Towson's Candace Steadman answered with a kill to put the set away.
The Blue Hens again hung tough in the third set, rallying from a four-point deficit to pull even at 21-21 on a block by Meyers and Chandler Bryant. The teams were again tied at 23-23, but Towson used a block followed by an Iosia kill to put the match away.
Delaware remains home on Wednesday when the Blue Hens host CAA leader Hofstra at 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
