BOSTON, Mass. -- University of Delaware junior middle hitter Chandler Bryant slammed a career-high 20 kills and posted an outstanding hitting percentage of .692 as the Blue Hen volleyball team got back into the win column with a 3-1 triumph over Northeastern Friday night at the Cabot Center.
Delaware, which snapped a six-matching losing skid while improving to 8-10 overall and 1-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association, recorded the win by set scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-21, 25-15. The Huskies dropped to 8-8 overall, and are also now 1-2 in league play.
Bryant had 20 kills against just two attack errors on 26 attempts, as her 20 kills are the most by a Blue Hen in a match this season. Sophomore Alexa Swann also had a dominating performance, adding 10 kills with only two errors for a .320 percentage. Junior Katie Hillman contributed 17 kills for the Blue Hens, whose .316 attack percentage is the third highest this year.
Sophomore Julia Anderson handed out 59 assists, more than doubling her previous season-high, while classmate Taylor Hollingsworth made a team-high 21 digs. Fellow sophomore Autumn Jenkins contributed 10 kills and 10 digs, while Swann recorded six blocks.
Jamie Bredahl and Brigitte Burcescu each posted 14 kills for Northeastern, while Natalia Skiba had 20 digs.
After the teams split the opening two sets, the third frame remained tight the entire way. The score was knotted at 20-20 but two straight kills by Swann ignited a four-point UD run, and after a Northeastern point, a Huskies attack error gave Delaware the set.
The Blue Hens then dominated the fourth set, racing out to a 7-1 lead and eventually extending the margin to 15-6. Northeastern got as close at six, but a Hillman kill followed by two Northeastern attack errors sealed the win for Delaware.
