Kyle Martin, Kieran Purcell Put Blue Hen Men's Golfers in Team Lead Following First Day of Binghamton Fall Invitational

APALACHIN, N.Y. -- Blue Hen junior Kyle Martin and freshman Kieran Purcell are each tied for second place in the individual standings while the University of Delaware men's golf team leads the field on Sunday following the first day of the Binghamton Fall Invitational.
The Blue Hens posted a blistering 279 team score, the program's lowest since a school-record 274 set at the Navy Fall Classic on Sept. 11, 2010. Delaware leads the 16-team field and holds a five-stroke lead over Robert Morris, which sits in second place with a 279 score. The host Bearcats are third at 286, followed by Hofstra at 289 and Bucknell at 290.
Martin and Purcell each fired career-low rounds of 68 on the par 72, 7,104-yard Links at Hiawatha Landing course, finishing the day at four under par and just one shot behind leader Peter Scialabba of Bucknell. Martin also carded a 68 at the Joe Agee Invitational in Williamsburg, Va. on Sept. 24, 2012.
Freshman Blaine Lafferty posted a season-low round of 71 on Sunday, ending the day in a tie for eighth place at one under par. Classmate Jack Gianniny is tied for 13th place with an even par 72 while sophomore Marc Oliveri, playing as an individual, is tied for 42nd place following his four over par 76. Freshman Erik Dulik, who carded a seven over par 79, will enter Monday's second and final round tied for 71st place.
The scond round of the tournament will begin at 8:45 a.m. with a shotgun start.
