Balanced Effort Leads University of Delaware Volleyball To 3-0 Home Victory Over Elon

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team received at least six kills from five different players as the Blue Hens posted a 3-0 (25-21, 27-25, 25-14) Colonial Athletic Association victory over Elon Friday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Delaware, which claimed its second consecutive match, improved to 15-15 overall this season including 8-7 in league play. The Phoenix dropped its fourth in a row, falling to 6-25 overall and 1-14 in the conference.
Blue Hen junior Katie Hillman slammed a team-high nine kills for Delaware, while classmate Jill Meyers added eight kills on just 13 swings while not committing an attack error as she hit .615 for the night. Meyers also had five blocks during the win, while sophomore Alexa Swann recorded six blocks in addition to six kills.
Chandler Bryant blasted eight kills for UD, while Autumn Jenkins chipped in with six. Julia Anderson handed out 35 assists on the night, while Taylor Hollingsworth led the defensive effort with 15 digs.
Bonnie KennyMegan Gravley led Elon with a match-high 11 kills, while Chanelle Smith posted 10 digs.
After the teams were tied at 14-14 midway through the opening set, the Phoenix eased out to a 21-18 advantage. However the Blue Hens responded by winning the final seven points of the frame, putting the set away on a kill by Hillman.
The second set was also tight, and Elon earned a pair of set points late in the frame. However after trailing 25-24 the Blue Hens answered with three straight points, the final one coming on a block by Meyers and Swann, to take a two-set cushion.
Delaware and Elon were knotted at 5-5 early in the third, but the Blue Hens exploded for a nine-point run and were not threatened from there.
The Blue Hens, who have already qualified for next weekend's CAA Tournament, conclude their regular season on Saturday with a 7 p.m. home match against UNCW.
