University of Delaware Women's Cross Country Places Eighth at ECAC Championships in Season Finale

BRONX, N.Y. -- The University of Delaware women's cross country squad closed out its 2014 season Saturday morning as the Blue Hens - once again led by senior Katrina Steenkamer - placed eighth out of 12 teams at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I Championships at Van Cortlandt State Park.
Delaware put four runners in the top 60 and earned 218 total points to place eighth in the 12-team field. Columbia captured the team title with 49 points followed by Villanova, Princeton, Georgetown, Pittsburgh, James Madison, George Mason, Delaware, Rider, La Salle, Saint Joseph's, and Iona.
Steenkamer, a senior from Rising Sun, Md. (St. Mark's HS, Del.), capped a perfect season in which she was the team's top finisher in all eight races. She placed 24th overall among 98 runners over the five-kilometer course, finishing the race with a time of 18:30.0. Villanova's Stephanie Schappert won the individual title, crossing the line in 17:42.4.
Also for Delaware, Adrienne Fraczkowski was 36th (18:50.4), Becky Gessler was 56th (19:35.6), Erin McCloskey was 58th (19:38.5), Liz McGroarty was 62nd (19:41.9), Melissa Mazzo was 64th (19:43.0), Gabby Alaimo was 68th (19:51.3), Ilana Schnaufer was 79th (20:04.9), Angie Spadaccini was 82nd (20:06.07), Maddie Berman was 86th (20:17.3), Melissa Talley was 90th (20:44.1), and Hannah Foss was 91st (20:46.9).
