Blue Hens Trio of Lyons, McCartney and Wein Announced as IWLCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Selections

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – For the first time in six years, the University of Delaware women's lacrosse team had three players recognized by the IWLCA as All-Region selections.
Caitlin McCartneyAll three were named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team. The last time the IWLCA honored at least three Blue Hens for All-Region accolades came in 2008 when Casey McCrudden, Katie Muth and Emily Schaknowski were all named Second Team selections.
The trio is now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Monday, May 19.
Earlier this month, the Lyons, McCartney and Wein received All-CAA First Team honors.
Kateri LinvilleIn her first season at UD, Lyons posted a team-best 58 points (36 goals, 22 assists) and has tallied at least one point each contest played. Her point total is the most for the Blue Hens since 2007. Lyons is currently fourth in the CAA with 3.41 points and 1.29 assists per game and fifth with 2.12 goals per.
McCartney led Delaware with 39 goals and is tied for 14th in school history with 115 career scores. The Blue Hens team captain is also third in the CAA with 2.39 goals per game and seventh with 2.82 points per contest. An impact midfielder for Delaware, McCartney has scored at least one point in all but one game played for the Blue Hens.
Wein was a defensive threat to Delaware opponents this past season as she guided a squad that is ranked 20th in the NCAA with 9.29 caused turnovers per game and 25th in scoring defense. Individually, Wein led the Hens with 31 groundballs and caused turnovers and is second in the CAA and 17th in NCAA Division I with 1.82 caused turnovers per game.
The Blue Hens recently concluded a 10-7 season in which Delaware returned to the CAA Tournament for the first time since 2009. UD, the third seed in the tournament, fell to No. 2 James Madison, 13-9 in the semifinals.
