Women’s Lacrosse Blows By Liberty 17-5 to Win ASUN Regular Season Championship

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team had five players with multi-goal performances in a convincing 17-5 victory at Liberty in an Atlantic Sun (ASUN) Conference game on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, Delaware has claimed the outright ASUN Regular Season Championship in its first season in the conference.
The Fightin' Blue Hens improve their winning streak to 11 games and sit at 12-4 overall and finish a perfect 8-0 in ASUN play. Liberty slips to 7-10 overall and 5-3 in conference action.

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Jaclyn Marszal led the UD offense with seven points on three goals and four assists, while tying a season high with three ground balls.
- Ella Rishko had a team-leading four goals and added an assist for five points. She stuffed the stat sheet with five draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- McKenzie Didio added a hat trick and Morgan Gore had three points on two goals and an assist.
- Julia Ciufo scored a pair of goals and Sophia Muscolino finished with a goal and an assist.
- Mary Matey scooped a career-high four ground balls and also grabbed four draw controls.
- Molly Baumgratz led the Blue Hens in the circle with seven draw controls as Delaware held a 16-7 advantage.
- Steph Marszal made two saves in goal.
- Delaware's defense held Liberty to 14 shot attempts and just 12-of-19 clearing while forcing 22 turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Liberty opened the scoring, Delaware rattled off five-straight goals to take a 5-1 lead after the first quarter. J. Marszal found Ciufo for the first goal, but dishing to Lulu Rishko to put UD on top for good midway through the frame.
- Muscolino, Didio and E. Rishko all scored to put the Hens on top 5-1.
- A pair of E. Rishko tallies, sandwiched around a goal from Riley Sturtevant extended the lead to 8-2.
- J. Marszal ripped home a free-position goal in the final minute to make it a 9-3 game at halftime.
- The Blue Hens scored the first eight goals of the second half to put the game out of hand. J. Marszal, Didio and Gore all had a pair of goals in the run, and Ciufo and E. Rishko also added scores.
GAME NOTES
- It is Delaware's first regular season championship since 1999, when the Blue Hens won their second of back-to-back America East titles.
- The 12 wins are the most by a UD team since the 2000 season.
- Delaware improved its winning streak to 11-consecutive games, the program's longest streak since winning 11-straight games to open the national championship 1983 season.
- The Blue Hens have scored at least 13 goals in 11-straight games, the longest streak in program history.
- Delaware's 16 draw controls gave the Blue Hens 241 for the season, breaking the program's single-season record which was set in 2023.
- E. Rishko now has 88 draw controls on the season, extending her own single-season record.
- It is the fifth time in program history that Delaware has finished undefeated in conference play (1999, America East; 1998 America East; 1984 ECC; 1983 ECC).
