Valiant Effort Thwarted as Delaware Falls to James Madison, 13-9, in CAA Semifinal Matchup

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team put doubt into the minds of James Madison University Friday evening as the Blue Hens charted a 4-0 rally to open the second half, but the Dukes roared back for a 13-9 victory at William & Mary's Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field in the Colonial Athletic Association Semifinals.
Second-seeded JMU (11-6) outscored third-seeded Delaware, 3-0, in the final 12:54 after leading by five at halftime.
The first half was a high paced, high scoring affair for both squads as the Dukes jumped out to a 5-2 lead less than 12 minutes in, but the Hens rallied to tie the game with 13:46 remaining. JMU closed the first with a 5-0 run to take the 10-5 advantage into the break.
Caitlin McCartneySophomores Shannon Hawley (Camillus, N.Y.) and Casey Lyons (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada) each tallied three points in the loss. Hawley notched two goals and one assist while Lyons, also an All-CAA First Team honoree, picked up one goal and two assists. Hawley led the Hens with three draw controls
Senior Tori Zorovich (Massapequa, N.Y.) collected the loss for Delaware by giving up 10 goals while tallying just one save.
Amy Roguski netted a hat trick and dished out three assists while CAA Co-Player of the Year Stephanie Finley recorded six draw controls to aid the Dukes in the win. Schylar Healy earned the win in the cage with six saves. James Madison advances to face top-seeded Delaware Sunday in the CAA Championship final.
“We faced some adversity in the first half. Together we did everything we could to make adjustments and battle back in the second half. Unfortunately, a second half comeback was not enough to win the game. I am proud of the grit and fight the team showed. Your last game always means something and advancing to the conference tournament is the first step to winning it.”
