NEWARK, Del. -- The nationally-ranked University of Delaware men's soccer team returns home this week as the Blue Hens attempt to remain unbeaten by hosting Seton Hall on Wednesday and Saint Peter's on Sunday at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.
Delaware, which is a perfect 4-0 on the season with three shutouts, cracked the NSCAA/Continental Tire Top 25 Poll for the first time in school history by coming in at the No. 21 spot this week. The Blue Hens are also No. 16 in the latest Top Drawer Soccer Poll and No. 24 in the College Soccer News Poll.
Delaware has opened the season with four consecutive wins for the first time since 1972, and is 4-0 for just the fourth time in school history. The Blue Hens have outscored their opponents 13-2 on the season, winning each match by at least two goals.
Sophomore All-American Guillermo Delgado scored two goals during both wins last week over Iona and St. Bonaventure, and leads UD with four goals on the campaign. Delgado is tied for the points lead along with sophomore Jaime Martinez, who has contributed three goals and two assists for eight points during the young campaign.
Joe Dipre and Nick DiRienzo have each added two goals and an assist, while goalkeeper Borja Barbero has not allowed a goal in 270 minutes while posting three clean sheets.
Seton Hall has played just two matches this season, tying Rhode Island, 1-1, before shutting out UMass-Lowell, 2-0. The Pirates have gone 2-0-1 against the Blue Hens over the previous three seasons, including last year's dramatic 5-4 double overtime victory in South Orange, N.J.
The Peacocks are 1-2 during the early going, dropping a pair of 1-0 setbacks to Lafayette and New Hampshire before edging Hartwick, 2-1. Saint Peter's is 3-2 against Delaware in the five meetings since 2007, but the Blue Hens recorded a 2-0 shutout a year ago in Jersey City, N.J.
Sunday's match will feature Socctoberfest at Grant Stadium, as fans can enjoy international cuisines from the concession stands featuring bratwurst, Bavarian pretzels, and more German favorites. Weather permitting, Inflatable Soccer Fun will be available for kids from 12-1 p.m., while t-shirts will be given away to the first 100 fans in attendance beginning at 12 noon. Additionally, polka music and other German traditions will be seen and heard by fans throughout the game.
Due to ongoing construction at Grant Stadium parking is available behind the Bob Carpenter Center; cars parked in other locations will be at risk for receiving a parking ticket. Fans are also encouraged to bring lawn chairs, as bleacher seating will be limited and subject to availability.
