Blue Hens Falter in Afternoon Matinee to Temple, 5-1

PHILADELPHIA – No. 16 Temple University jumped on the scoring train quickly Friday afternoon at Geasey Field as the Owls downed the University of Delaware field hockey team, 5-1.
The Owls (4-1) went up 4-0 over the Blue Hens (3-3) within the first 11 minutes of play before taking a 5-0 lead at the halftime break.
Jacki Coveleski (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) broke the scoreless streak in the 63rd minute off a rebounded shot for her third goal of the season.Freshman Emmeline Oltmans (Baarn, The Netherlands/Het Baarnsch Lyceum) recorded six saves in the loss while juniors Janell Holmes (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg Christian) and Allie Mikelson (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) each tallied a defensive save.
Katie Foran led Temple with one goal and two assists while Lizzy Millen and Haley Mitchell each collected two saves.
“Congratulations are in place to Temple. I thought they played very well as a team and exposed us in a number of areas today. Our team got a reality check today. Today taught us that we need team play and team discipline in order to be in the position to have a quality performance and a positive experience. As a players group and coaching staff we will have to refocus and get back on track as it relates to the way we have and can play 'Delaware Hockey' next time around we are in a hockey setting.”
Jacki Coveleski led UD with two shots.
· Delaware has dropped two straight matches for the first time since October 2012.
· The Blue Hens are now 19-12-1 against the Owls.
