Delaware Women's Tennis Completes Towson Tiger Classic With Nine Wins

TOWSON, Md. – The University of Delaware women's tennis squad wrapped up the first tournament of the season in strong fashion Sunday as the Blue Hens went 9-1 against Loyola (Md.) and host Towson at the Tiger Classic.
Senior Christina Harrington (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) and freshman Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) paired to go 2-0 on the day with doubles victories over Loyola's Ania Krawiec and Julie Clark and Towson's Sophie Lesage and Cailey Easdale.
Freshman Arielle Shuren (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) collected her first career victory with a close, come-from-behind, 6-3, 5-7, 11-9 win versus Loyola's Emily Hughes. Shuren followed later in the day with another tough match that resulted in a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 victory against Towson's Barbora Vasilkova.
Denny Lamachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) continued to shine in a Delaware uniform as the sophomore transfer defeated Amanda Lanciano (Loyola), 6-2, 6-3 and Ayana Dow (Towson), 6-1, 6-1.
Also earning singles victories on the day were junior Danea Jonjic' (Split, Croatia/Croatia Natural Sciences and Technical) and seniors Abby Martinez (Winter Haven, Fla./Winter Haven) and Kim Milla (México City, México/CONAMAT).
“Today was a great finish to our first tournament of the season. Play got better and better as the weekend went on and we know what we need to work on.”
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Denny Lamachia is 3-0 to begin her Delaware career.
· Christina Harrington improves to 30-23 all-time in doubles play.
· Kim Milla is 34-27 in singles action all-time.
