Blue Hen Volleyball Falls To South Florida, Host Panthers at Pitt Panther Invitational

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule on Saturday at the Pitt Panther Invitational as the Blue Hens dropped a 3-2 decision to South Florida before a straight-set defeat to Pitt.
The Bulls held off Delaware for a 3-2 (25-22, 25-20, 20-25, 19-25, 15-10) victory during the Blue Hens' early match, before the Panthers recorded a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-20) verdict in the nightcap.
Chandler Bryant led the Blue Hens (7-8) against South Florida with a season-high 17 kills and hit .538 for the match, while Alexa Swann also set her season-high with 16 kills and posted a .500 attack percentage.
Autumn Jenkins notched a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Erin Layne also had a double-double by posting 33 assists and 11 digs. Katie Hillman contributed eight kills and 12 digs during the match, while Taylor Hollingsworth paced UD with 23 digs.
Erin Fairs led the Bulls (5-6) with 21 kills and a .354 attack percentage, while Adyson Goodnight chipped in with 13 kills.
Hillman slammed a team-high nine kills against Pitt while Bryant, who was UD's lone representative on the All-Tournament Team, added eight with a team-leading .333 attack percentage. Hollingsworth posted 17 digs, while Swann made a career-high eight blocks.
Kate Yeazel had 12 kills and hit .423 for the Panthers, who improved to 11-1 on the campaign with their sixth consecutive victory.
Delaware will look to snap its four-match losing skid on Wednesday when the Blue Hens open Colonial Athletic Association play with a 7 p.m. contest at Towson.

• Jenkins and Layne are tied for the team lead with four double-doubles
• Swann's eight blocks vs. Pitt are the second most by a Blue Hen this season, behind Daria Robinson's nine vs. Delaware State
• UD led Pitt 18-14 in the third set, before the Panthers closed the match by winning 11 of the final 13 points
• Delaware's 26 kills vs. the Panthers tied for the team's season-low
