ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team will open its 2014 fall season this weekend when the Blue Hens compete in the Navy Fall Classic.
The tournament will again be played on the par 71, 6,528-yard Navy Academy Golf Course, and will feature single rounds on both Saturday and Sunday. The tournament features 10 teams including the Blue Hens, Brown, Cornell, Georgetown, Saint Joseph's, Seton Hall, Towson, Villanova and two Navy squads.
This year will mark Delaware's 14th consecutive appearance in the Navy Fall Classic, and the Blue Hens captured the 2010 and 2011 team titles.
Delaware, which will be led by 14th-year head coach Mike Keogh, returns all but one player from last year's squad which posted five top-10 finishes on the season.
Junior Kyle Martin paced the Blue Hens by averaging 76.52 shots per round a year ago, while classmate Colin McKenna averaged 77.69 shots during the spring season. Fraser Graham (78.28 average round), Niño Rosal (78.36), Marc Oliveri (78.45) and Joe Visalli (78.90) also return for Delaware, which adds four talented freshmen to the squad.
Following this weekend's action, the Blue Hens will take a week off before competing in the Cornell Fall Invitational on Sept. 20-21 in Ithaca, N.Y. After an appearance at the George Mason Patriot Intercollegiate on Sept. 28-29, Delaware will participate in the Binghamton Fall Invitational in Apalachin, N.Y. on Oct. 5-6. UD's fall season once again concludes at the Old Dominion/Kilmarlic Invitational in Nags Head, N.C. on Oct. 19-21.
