BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team knocked down nine free throws in the final minute of play Sunday afternoon to come from behind and defeat Northeastern, 54-48, at the Cabot Center.
The Huskies led for over three quarters of the game, and held a 43-42 advantage with 2:28 remaining before sophomore Hannah Jardine (St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada/O'Donel) drained a three to put the Hens ahead, 45-43.
Delaware never looked back in its first Colonial Athletic Association win of the year as the Blue Hens went 9-for-10 from the charity stripe and held NU to just five points to close the game.
Sophomore Erika Brown (Haledon, N.J./Paterson Kennedy) led all scorers with 18 points, three assists and three rebounds in 35 minutes of action.
Jardine added 13 points and five rebounds while senior Joy Caracciolo (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) registered 10 points and five rebounds. Freshman Makeda Nicholas led UD (6-9, 1-3 CAA) with six rebounds.
Francesca Sally steered the Huskies (3-11, 0-4 CAA) with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
“Everyone contributed today when they needed to. We still made some mistakes, but the bottom line is that we finally got a road win and a conference win. We need to build on this and continue to improve. It feels good to get this win. I thought several people really stepped up at the end of the game and got the job done.
Sophomore Erika Brown
“We made some crucial stops today. We had some breakdowns, but we didn't get down. We knew we had to take a stand and get this win.
