ELKTON, Md. – The University of Delaware women's tennis team lost its first match of the season Saturday evening with a 7-0 defeat at the hands of Temple University at Elkton Indoor Tennis.
The Owls (3-2) collected the team doubles point after picking up wins in the first and second flights over the Blue Hens (2-1).
Junior Danea Jonjic' (Split, Croatia/Croatia Natural Sciences & Technical) paired with senior Abby Martinez (Winter Haven, Fla./Winter Haven) for UD's lone doubles win of the night. The duo outlasted Mariana Bedon and Miniami Okajima, 7-6 (4).
In the lone extra set match of the night, Jonjic pushed Dina Karina to the third in No. 2 singles before eventually falling, 6-3, 5-7, 11-9.
“We competed well against a very strong Temple team. Despite the loss, we gained experience, which will help us further down the road.”
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Danea Jonjic' and Abby Martinez won their first career doubles match as a pair.
· Jonjic' improved to 23-20 during her doubles career while Martinez moved to 14-11.
· Delaware is 29-12 this season in doubles action.
