NEWARK, Del. – Junior Thomas de Villardi (Vincennes, France/Lycee Notre-dame Guingamp) led the way with four points while four total Blue Hens got in the scoring action Wednesday evening in Delaware's 5-1 decision over Drexel at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.
T
he Hens, who had been shutout in five of the last seven games, posted season-highs in goals, points (13) and assists (3) in the win.
Sophomore Ryan Talbot (at left; Medford, N.J./Shawnee) posted his first goal in a Delaware uniform in the 24th minute to erase the eggs on the scoreboard.
Fellow sophomore Thibault Philippe (below right; Saint Brienc, France/Lycee Notre-dame Guingamp) gave the Hens the two-goal advantage in the 32nd minute with his first score of the year after heading in the corner kick from de Villardi, his former high school teammate.
De Villardi and junior All-American Guillermo Delgado (Tres Cantos, Spain/Jose Luis Sampedro) connected for the first time on the night in the 53rd minute as de Villardi notched his first tally in the blue and gold to go up, 3-0, after receiving the cross from Delgado.
Colin McGlynn logged his fourth goal of the season and the lone goal of the game for the Dragons (2-11-1, 1-5 CAA) in the 61st minute.
The duo of de Villardi and Delgado paired once again in the 88th minute on the breakaway goal for Delaware (5-6-2, 2-2 CAA), but this time Delgado knocked the ball in while de Villardi was credited with the assist.
With time winding down, the Blue Hens received their fifth and final goal as a Drexel player netted an 'own-goal.'
Redshirt freshman Todd Morton (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) accumulated three saves to move to 3-2-1 on the year.
Jacob Jordan also posted three saves for the Dragons.
“This win feels great. We've played this way for the last four or five games and the shots just didn't go in. This looked like the team I know. We're really happy that we had a mix of scorers tonight. Thomas [de Villardi] is a fabulous player; he's gifted. We changed his role a bit in the second half and he responded. With the talented conference that we're in, we had a good result tonight.”

“Our counter attacks were working very well tonight. We were settting the pace in the offensive third and I really think we did great tonight. I felt we had a lot of space tonight and Guillermo [Delgado] and I really had a good connection. It's difficult to have an empty net, because you're afraid of missing the easy one, but it worked for me today.”
