Delaware Suffers Three-Set Loss To Hofstra at CSB

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team battled Hofstra but ultimately dropped a 3-0 decision to the Pride Friday night at the Carpenter Sports Building.
Hofstra needed to go overtime in the first and third sets but outlasted the Blue Hens 27-25, 25-13, 30-28 as the Pride snapped a two-match losing streak while improving to 15-8 overall and 6-2 in the 
Colonial Athletic Association.
Delaware, which dropped its second straight, fell to 9-11 overall and 1-6 in league play.
Blue Hen senior outside hitter Katie Hillman led UD with 11 kills on the night, while Chandler Bryant and Alexa Swann each contributed six kills and four blocks. Julia Anderson (below) handed out 23 assists for the Blue Hens, while Ariel Shonk (left) posted 16 digs.
Leticia Valente paced Hofstra with 16 kills and a .481 attack percentage, while Nanishka Perez and Veronika Kostova added 13 kills apiece. Hannah Klemm dished out 51 assists for the Pride, while Luisa Dominguez made a match-high 22 digs.
The opening set featured 14 ties and seven lead changes, as Delaware battled back from a five-point deficit to knot the frame at 20-20.
The Blue Hens went in front 25-24 following a service ace by Shonk, but Hofstra responded by taking the next three points to win the set.
The Pride used a 10-1 spurt to take control of the second set and won the stanza by 12 points, before the thrilling third set.
Delaware led for a majority of the frame, eventually fought off four match points and took a 28-27 advantage on an Anderson kill. However Hofstra bounced back to win the final three points to capture the match.
Delaware remains home on Sunday to host Northeastern at 1 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.

• Hillman reached double figure kills for the 11th time this season
