Blue Hens Drop Three-Set Match at CAA Leader James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team had its two-match winning streak snapped on Sunday as the Blue Hens dropped a 3-0 decision to CAA-leading James Madison at Sinclair Gymnasium.
James Madison, which improved to 21-4 overall and a perfect 11-0 in the conference, captured the match by set scores of 25-16, 25-21, 25-22. Delaware fell to 11-12 overall and 3-7 in the CAA.
UD junior Alexa Swann blasted 11 kills and hit .588 for the match to lead the Blue Hens, while Autumn Jenkins added seven kills and 10 digs on the afternoon. Katie Hillman and Lauren Talley each contributed six kills, while Chandler Bryant had five kills and five blocks.
Julia Anderson dished out 22 assists for Delaware, while Ariel Shonk tied Jenkins for the team lead with 10 digs.
Janey Goodman recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs for the Dukes, while Meghan Niski chipped in with 12 kills on the afternoon.
JMU never trailed during the opening set, and after Delaware closed within 21-16, the Dukes won the next four points to take the frame. The Blue Hens led by as many as five points in the second stanza and were still up two at 21-19, but again JMU closed strong with a six-point run to take a two sets to none advantage.
UD again hung tough in the third set, rallying from four points down to go in front 20-19 on a kill by Swann. However the Dukes captured six of the final eight points, sealing the victory on a kill by Bryn Recker.
The Blue Hens return home next weekend, hosting Elon on Saturday and William & Mary on Sunday at the Bob Carpenter Center.

• JMU swept the regular season series with UD and has won six of the last eight meetings
• Shonk went over the 1,800 digs mark for her career
• Swann reached double figures in kills for the 10th time this season
