BALTIMORE, Md. – The University of Delaware women's basketball was predicted to finish fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Poll, as announced at Tuesday's CAA Basketball Media Day.
Additionally, junior Erika Brown (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) and senior Courtni Green (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) were picked as Preseason All-CAA Second Team and Honorable Mention selections, respectively.
James Madison, the defending CAA champion, was selected to repeat in 2016 according to a vote of the league's head coaches. Behind the Dukes were Drexel and Hofstra while Elon was picked fourth. William & Mary followed Delaware in sixth place. Rounding out the 10 teams, in order were UNCW, Towson, College of Charleston and Northeastern.
The Blue Hens look to bounce back from a 2014-15 campaign in which Delaware finished 15-17 overall and 8-10 in league play with a trip to the CAA semifinals. UD returns four starters and 11 letterwinners from last season while adding four newcomers for the upcoming year.
The starting backcourt for the Hens, Brown and Green led the squad with 14.2 points per game apiece last season. Brown added 42 steals and 65 assists with 3.1 rebounds per game in 2015 while Green collected 74 assists and 41 steals with 4.1 rebounds per contest.
JMU's Jazmon Gwathmey was selected as the CAA Preseason Player of the Year
The league's television schedule was also announced at Media Day, with the Blue Hens being featured twice during regular season action on the American Sports Network when Delaware travels to Drexel on Jan. 31 before hosting the Dukes on March 2.
The 2016 CAA Women's Basketball Championship will be held March 9-12 at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md. Tickets are currently on sale via CAAsports.com/tickets.
