BOSTON, Mass. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team dropped its second consecutive match as the Blue Hens fell to Northeastern, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Cabot Gym.
The Huskies captured the match by set scores of 25-20, 25-15, 20-25, 25-11 to win their second straight contest and improve to 6-22 overall and 3-10 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Delaware, opening its final road trip of the season, fell to 12-14 overall and 4-9 in league play.
Autumn Jenkins led the Blue Hens with 10 kills on the day while Alexa Swann added eight kills, a .636 attack percentage and four blocks. Katie Hillman contributed seven kills for UD, while Julia Anderson dished out 27 assists and Ariel Shonk led all players with 18 digs.
Brigitte Burcescu and Caterina Rosander each slammed 13 kills for Northeastern, while Jamie Bredahl posted a double-double with 37 assists and 13 digs.
The competitive first set featured nine ties and seven lead changes, but after the Blue Hens took a 20-19 lead, the Huskies captured the final six points of the stanza to take the early one-set advantage. Northeastern then jumped out to a 6-1 advantage in the second set and led the entire way, eventually settling for a 10-point victory and a two-set cushion.
Delaware broke away from a 15-15 deadlock in the third set by winning six of the next seven points, while kills by Hillman and Daria Robinson put the set away and got the Blue Hens back in the match.
However the Huskies used an early six-point spurt to take control of the fourth set and were never seriously threatened from there, as Rosander eventually put the match away with a kill.
Delaware plays its final road match of the regular season on Monday with a 7 p.m. start at Hofstra.
