Former University of Delaware men's golf standout Justin Martinson is one of 12 golfers currently competing in the Golf Channel's “Big Break The Palm Beaches, Fla.”
Martinson competed on the reality show last summer, when it was filmed at PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The show premiered Monday at 9 p.m., with Martinson advancing to the next round.
The winner of the competition receives an exemption into the Barbasol Championship, a PGA Tour event to be played July 16-19 in Opelika, Ala.
Last year Martinson finished fifth on the NGA Tour money list, and he plans to continue playing this year on the tour, which has become the SwingThought.com Tour.
Martinson, a 2011 UD graduate, is one of the top players in Blue Hen history, as his 73.53 career average round is the lowest by any Delaware golfer. He also has recorded the two lowest rounds in UD history, as well as the two lowest two-round totals.
Martinson won the 2010 CAA Championship, and went on to tie for 13th place at the NCAA Regionals in Alpharetta, Ga. He was a second team all-conference pick that year, before earning first team honors as a senior in 2010-11. Martinson's eight rounds in the 60's in 2009-10 are the most in a UD single season, while his 12 rounds in the 60's from 2008-11 are also a Blue Hen career mark.
Additionally Martinson won the Delaware State Golf Association's Open championship in 2009 and 2011, and also captured the 2010 DSGA Amateur.
