Blue Hens Fourth, Purcell Seventh After Day 1 of Cape Fear Intercollegiate

LELAND, N.C. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team is tied for fourth place while freshman Kieran Purcell sits in seventh place following Sunday's opening two rounds at the Cape Fear Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State.
The Blue Hens posted a 311 opening round before shooting an impressive 299 in the second, finishing the day with a two-round total of 610. High Point leads the 12-team field with a 587 score, followed by Gardner-Webb at 591 and the host Mountaineers at 609. Delaware and Robert Morris are each tied for fourth place.
Purcell carded a three over par 76-71-147 on Sunday on the par 72, 6,950-yard course at Cape Fear National Golf Course, finishing the day in seventh place in the individual standings.
Fellow freshman Blaine Lafferty is tied for 20th place with a seven over par 79-72-151, while classmate Jack Gianniny fired an 11 over par 79-76-155 to finish the day tied for 31st place.
UD senior Niño Rosal is tied for 45th place following his 15 over par day of 77-82-159, while junior Kyle Martin carded a 17 over par 81-80-161 and is tied for 50th place.
The third and final round of the tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday.
