RICHMOND, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association recognized two University of Delaware juniors for the first time in their careers Monday as Shannon Hawley (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and Ali Karwoski (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) were recipients of the league's weekly accolades.
Hawley was named the CAA women's lacrosse Player of the Week while Karwoski garnered Defensive Player of the Week praise.
Hawley posted seven goals over two games for the #rv Blue Hens (8-4, 1-0 CAA). The attacker had a pair of goals and a draw control against Canisius Wednesday before having a crucial day at Princeton Saturday. Hawley was instrumental in UD's 12-10 upset over the No. 11 Tigers by scoring a career-high five goals on seven shots, including the game-winner. She has now tallied at least one point in 22 straight contests and has led the Hens in scoring in three straight games.
Karwoski was solid defensively for Delaware, tallying five caused turnovers and eight groundballs in two contests. The midfielder began the week by posting a career-best four groundballs against the Griffs to go along with three caused turnovers and two draw controls. In Saturday's match, Karwoski tied her new career-high of four groundballs while causing a pair of Tiger turnovers.
