WILMINGTON, N.C. – The University of Delaware women's tennis team opened spring break and continued Colonial Athletic Association play Monday afternoon with a 7-0 defeat at the hands of UNCW.
In No. 3 doubles, freshman Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) and senior Abby Martinez (Winter Haven, Fla./Winter Haven) collected an 8-6 victory over Alix Theodossiou and Hollie Champion. UNCW (8-6, 3-1 CAA) claimed the team point, however, by clinching the first and second doubles flights.
The Blue Hens (3-5, 0-2 CAA) forced two three-set singles matches, but were unable to come out on top in the No. 2 and No. 3 slots.
“We played excellent doubles and very strong singles today in our first match outside. UNCW has a history of being exceptionally consistent and mentally tough and it showed today. We were fortunate to get play outside and get used to windy conditions.”
