Blue Hens No Match for La Salle's Bats, Falter to Explorers 11-5

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The La Salle bats proved to be too much for the Blue Hens for the second time this season as the University of Delaware fell to La Salle 11-5 in a non-league baseball game Wednesday.
The Hens (10-10) lost to La Salle (14-13) in the first round of the Liberty Bell Classic on Mar. 24 by a 9-1 score and have now lost three of the last four meetings against the Explorers.
Jim ShermanAfter La Salle scored a run in the first inning, Brock Niggebrugge put the Blue Hens on the board in the second on an RBI single that scored Greg Olenski.
The Explorers added another run in the second inning before scoring two runs in the third. La Salle then took control of the game with a five-run fourth inning highlighted by a Mark Williams two-RBI triple.
Justin Korenblatt and Williams led La Salle with three hits and three RBI in the winning effort. Williams was also the starting pitcher for the Explorers and was a single away from hitting for the cycle.
Trailing 10-1, the Hens were able to close the gap with a four-run seventh inning. UD recorded four hits in the inning with Jeremy Ake and Olenski each posting RBI doubles. Tyler Powell also added an RBI single in the frame.
Olenski, Joe Giacchino, Norm Donkin led Delaware with two hits, while Ake recorded a team-high two RBI.
Delaware will resume conference play beginning Friday as the Blue Hens travel to James Madison for a three-game set.

· Wednesday marked the fourth errorless game of the season for Delaware.
· La Salle has scored 51 runs in the last four meetings against UD.
· Scott Zimmer started the game and took the loss for the Hens as the freshman allowed four runs on four hits in three innings.
· The Explorers scored at least one run in the first five innings.
· Andrew Pechstein and Taylor Mahoney each pitched a hitless and scoreless inning in relief.
· Delaware leads the all-time series vs. La Salle 39-13.
