NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's tennis seniors went out on top at home Saturday afternoon as the Blue Hens defeated Hofstra, 6-1, at the Delaware Field House Outdoor Courts for the first Colonial Athletic Association win of the season.
Delaware (5-7, 1-4 CAA) opened the afternoon by sweeping the doubles team point versus the Pride (11-4, 0-3 CAA).
The Blue Hens continued to take all of the singles matches, but defaulted at No. 6 singles due to an injury.
Seniors Christina Harrington (Millersville, Md./Severna Park), Abby Martinez (Winter Haven, Fla./Winter Haven) and Kim Milla (México City, México/CONAMAT) each earned wins in their respective flights.
Milla defeated Carmen Pestano, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4) in No. 3 singles while Harrington picked up a 7-5, 6-3 win in the fourth slot against Giulia Leone. Martinez rounded off the afternoon with a 6-3, 6-7, 10-6 victory over Bianca Derrick in the fifth flight.
“What a match for Senior Day. It took four hours to clinch and another two to complete as it was back-and-forth the entire day. We could not be more proud of the way that our players competed, especially the seniors. We're very happy for them.”
