PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Drexel University proved to be too much for the Blue Hens as the University of Delaware women's tennis team fell to the Dragons, 7-0, Sunday afternoon at Vidas Courts.
Junior Danea Jonjic' (Split, Croatia/Croatia Natural Sciences & Technical) and freshman Arielle Shuren (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) collected UD's (5-8, 1-5 Colonial Athletic Association) lone win of the day in No. 1 doubles. Jonjic' and Shuren paired for an 8-6 decision over Nicole Pivonka and Clary Rodriguez Cruz.
Unfortunately for the Hens, the Dragons captured the two other doubles matches to take the team point.
Freshman Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) forced the day's lone three-set match, but eventually fell to Erin Bowsher in No. 2 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.
With the win, Drexel improved to 15-2 on the year and 2-1 in league action.
“It was a beautiful day to play tennis. Drexel is a very strong team and deserved the win, but it was very evident that yesterday's match took its toll today. We have a couple of days to regroup before the CAA Championships and we are looking forward to more good tennis to come.”
