Three Delaware Boats Advance to Finals on Day Two of Knecht Cup Regatta

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Three University of Delaware boats advanced to the finals of their competition Sunday in day two of the Knecht Cup Regatta at Mercer Lake.
The UD Novice Fours crew, led by coxswain Alex Aber, kicked Sunday's races off for the Hens with a sixth place finish by recording a time of 8:37.98. The time was good enough to advance to the third level final where the squad finished in fourth place, 16.03 seconds behind first place Central Florida.
After a second place finish in Saturday's heat, the Delaware Varsity Fours boat tallied a time of 8:04.10 in the third semifinal race, which was good for fifth and a place in the third level final.
Later in the day, the crew finished second in the third level final, which was 4.37 seconds behind Penn State.
Coxswain Alison Gibney guided the Novice Eights to a time of 7:14.36 in the fourth heat of the event. The time was just 5.60 seconds behind North Carolina and earned the boat a spot in the grand final of the event.
In the grand final, the Blue Hens finished the race in 7:17.65, which was enough to post sixth place.
The Blue Hen Third Varsity Eights crew finished in fifth place in the second heat of the event in a time of 7:39.93.
Delaware will return to the water Sunday as the Hens square off with George Mason and George Washington in a dual meet on the Occoquan River in Fairfax Station, Va.
