Blue Hens Drop Series Finale To No. 23 James Madison, 8-0

NEWARK, Del. -- Jailyn Ford knocked home four runs while Erica Field drove home a pair as the 23rd-ranked James Madison softball team defeated the University of Delaware, 8-0, Sunday afternoon at the UD Softball Stadium.
The Dukes, who won all three games of the series in five innings, improved to 37-6 overall and 14-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association while winning their 28th consecutive game. Delaware fell to 23-18 overall and 5-9 in league action.
JMU took the lead in the top of the first inning when Ford singled home Field, while an RBI single by Hannah Hayes made it a 2-0 game in the third. Ford then delivered a three-run double in the fourth, before an RBI double by Niki Prince and a two-run single by Field in the fifth closed the scoring.
Dukes pitcher Megan Good improved to 22-0 after allowing five hits in 4.2 innings of scoreless ball, before Ford retired the final batter of the game. Carolyn Szymanski surrendered five runs, two earned, in four innings of work as she dropped to 16-10 on the year, before Kiersten Coffman gave up three runs in the final frame.
Jessica Grisler and Giovanna Kolofer had two hits apiece for the Blue Hens, while Sarah Bencivenga also recorded a single.
The Blue Hens remain home on Tuesday to host Coppin State in a 3 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at the UD Softball Stadium.
