BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – University of Delaware women's lacrosse junior Elyse Andrews (Wilmington, Del./Archmere) was named Wednesday as a finalist for the second straight season for the 2015 Yeardley Reynolds Love (“YRL”) Unsung Hero Award, as announced by the One Love Foundation.
Established in 2011, the YRL Unsung Hero Award recognizes the accomplishments of one men's and one women's Division I lacrosse player who demonstrates the qualities that Yeardley Love so humbly displayed, including dedication, integrity, humility, hard work, community service, leadership, kindness and sportsmanship.
Kateri LinvilleAn honors student who maintains a 3.9 cumulative GPA, Andrews is a pre-med major at UD. In addition to being a Division I student-athlete, she focuses her time with the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation and UDance, the largest philanthropic event on Delaware's campus.
“It is beyond impressive what Elyse accomplishes in a day as she pursues academic and athletic excellence while still finding time to give back to her teammates, our athletics department and her hometown community,” Linville remarked. “I am thankful for her efforts and for the inspiration that she brings to our program each and every day.”
The winners of the 2015 YRL Unsung Hero Award will be announced in late May and will be awarded a donation to a charity of their choice.
The One Love Foundation was co-founded by Sharon and Lexie Love in May 2010 to honor their daughter and sister, Yeardley Reynolds Love, a University of Virginia student-athlete who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend. The organization supports its mission to end relationship violence through the core values that Yeardley exemplified: education, service, kindness, dedication, humility and sportsmanship. The “One” represents the number Yeardley wore on her jersey during her high school and collegiate lacrosse careers. In her memory, the University of Virginia has since retired the number.
