Six Blue Hens Honored as Members of All-CAA Postseason Squads

NEWARK, Del. – For the second consecutive season, the University of Delaware women's lacrosse team had six student-athletes represented as All-Colonial Athletic Association honorees, as voted on by the league's head coaches and announced by the league Thursday evening.
Caitlin McCartney (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) was named an All-First Team selection for the fourth time in her career while juniors Casey Lyons (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada/Berkshire) and Erin Wein (Middletown, Md./Middletown) earned the award for the second time as Blue Hens.The CAA also honored sophomore Jamie Schwartz (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) on the Second Team while freshman Becky Gohsler (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) was named to the All-Rookie Team. Junior Elyse Andrews (Wilmington, Del./Archmere) was recognized for her work in the classroom as an All-Academic Team awardee for the second consecutive year.
Lyons currently quarterbacks the Delaware offense with 56 points on 40 goals and 16 assists while McCartney has posted 42 points on 36 goals and six assists. McCartney also guides the Hens with a school single-season record 66 draw controls.
The team's top defender, Wein is 10th nationally with a school single-season record 35 caused turnovers at a clip of 2.06 per game. Additionally, she has posted a team-best 37 groundballs for a unit that ranks fifth in the nation in scoring defense.
An impact player with great vision, Schwartz is third in the CAA with 22 assists and ranked nationally in assists, assists per game and points. She has also contributed 20 goals for a total of 42 points.
A key contributor in her rookie campaign, Gohsler is second on the team with 26 draw controls in addition to registering nine goals and one assist for 10 points and 15 groundballs.
An honors student majoring in pre-med, Andrews has maintained nearly a 4.0 grade point average as a student-athlete to earn All-Academic honors for the second year.
Brittain Altomare (Hofstra) was named the 2015 CAA Player of the Year while Michelle Dufault (Towson) collected Defensive Player of the Year distinction. First-year CAA member Elon picked up the Rookie of the Year in Stephanie Asher while Shannon Smith (Hofstra) was named the Coach of the Year.
The third-seeded Blue Hens (11-6, 4-2 CAA) will face off against No. 2 seeded James Madison (13-4, 5-1 CAA) at 7 p.m. Friday in the CAA semifinals at Delaware Stadium.
