Delaware Places Fifth at CAA Championship, Scholes and Cirelli Earn All-CAA Honors

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The University of Delaware rowing team wrapped up its season Sunday with a 15 point total and a fifth place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Championship on Mercer Lake.
In addition to the competition, the CAA also handed out all-conference honors Sunday. Denise Cirelli was named to the All-CAA team and Hannah Scholes received CAA All-Academic accolades.
"Everyone raced hard today," said University of Delaware head coach Kevin Gruber. "This was the last trip down the race course for a great senior class and they gave it everything they had."
The Third Varsity Eights crew, led by coxswain Alison Gibney, posted Delaware's top finish Sunday as the boat posted a time of 7:08.37 to earn a second place finish.
The Blue Hen Varsity Fours and Second Varsity Eights each recorded fourth place finishes, while the UD Varsity Eights boat finished in fifth place in its competition.
Northeastern was able to defend its CAA crown with a 36 point performance. The Huskies won every race and placed four rowers on the All-CAA squad. Northeastern's coach Joe Wilhelm was selected CAA Coach of the Year.
Drexel tallied 30 points and finished in second in the overall standings, while Buffalo rounded out the top three with 22 points. Eastern Michigan finished in fourth place with 17 points.
